United Way of Caroline County Transitions Resources to The Caroline Foundation to Strengthen Local Nonprofits

For decades, the United Way of Caroline County has been a steadfast champion of local nonprofits, ensuring that vital programs addressing human service needs receive the support they need to thrive. Today, that legacy continues in a new way, as the organization has transferred its remaining assets to The Caroline Foundation, a move designed to enhance long-term support for the county’s nonprofit community.

With the establishment of The Caroline Foundation in recent years—built upon a strong endowment and a mission closely aligned with the United Way’s—it became clear that maintaining two separate organizations was no longer the most effective way to serve Caroline County. By uniting resources, The Caroline Foundation is positioned to provide even greater, sustained support to the local organizations that strengthen the community.

"United Way of Caroline County has always been dedicated to supporting the incredible work of local nonprofits," said President Sherone Lewis. "However, as a fundraising organization, we often found ourselves competing with the very nonprofits we were trying to help. The Caroline Foundation, with its substantial endowment, allows it to provide consistent and meaningful support to Caroline County Organizations. Donations will continue to be appreciated at the Caroline Foundation to help meet the ever growing needs in the County.

For years, United Way of Caroline County played a pivotal role in funding small, grassroots nonprofits that provide essential services to residents. By transitioning its assets to The Caroline Foundation, the organization ensures that donors' contributions will continue to support these vital services well into the future.

"This transition represents the best way to honor the generosity of our donors and the hard work of the nonprofits we’ve supported," said Secretary Sue Simmons. "It allows us to amplify our impact and secure a strong future for human services in Caroline County."

The Caroline Foundation, created to provide sustainable funding for local organizations, will continue the work of strengthening Caroline County by investing in programs that address health, education, and financial stability—the very same priorities that guided the United Way of Caroline County for so many years.

“We are thrilled that the United Way of Caroline County has chosen to entrust us with its funds and the continuation of its mission,” said Caroline Foundation President Terry Mead. “By consolidating resources, we strengthen our ability to serve the county’s most pressing needs, now and for generations to come."

As this chapter closes, the spirit of the United Way of Caroline County lives on through the continued work of The Caroline Foundation, ensuring that nonprofits in our community receive the support they need to serve the people of Caroline County for generations to come.
